A successive order of scattering model for solving vector radiative transfer in the atmosphere
نویسندگان
چکیده
A full vector radiative transfer model for vertically inhomogeneous plane–parallel media has been developed by using the successive order of scattering approach. In this model, a fast analytical expansion of Fourier decomposition is implemented and an exponent-linear assumption is used for vertical integration. An analytic angular interpolation method of post-processing source function is also implemented to accurately interpolate the Stokes vector at arbitrary angles for a given solution. It has been tested against the benchmarks for the case of randomly orientated oblate spheroids, illustrating a good agreement for each stokes vector (within 0.01%). Sensitivity tests have been conducted to illustrate the accuracy of vertical integration and angle interpolation approaches. The contribution of each scattering order for di8erent optical depths and single scattering albedos are also analyzed. ? 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Numerical technique for solving the radiative transfer equation for a spherical shell atmosphere.
A method for numerically solving the equation of radiative transfer in a spherical shell atmosphere is presented. The method uses a conical boundary and a Gauss-Seidel iteration scheme to solve for all orders of scattering along a single radial line in the atmosphere. Tests of the model indicate an accuracy better than 1% for most Earth-atmosphere situations. Results from this model are compare...
متن کاملRadiative heat transfer: many-body effects
Heat transfer by electromagnetic radiation is one of the common methods of energy transfer between objects. Using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, we have studied the effect of particle arrangement in the transmission of radiative heat in many-body systems. In order to show the effect of the structure morphology on the collective properties, the radiative heat transfer is studied and the re...

Abstract: The present study deals the theoretical modeling aspects of coupled conductive and radiative heat transfer in the presence of absorbing, emitting and scattering gray medium within two-dimensional square furnace including two flames. The gray radiative medium is bounded by isothermal walls which are considered to be opaque, diffuse and gray. The well known discrete ordinate method (DOM...
متن کاملEstimation of Biomass Burning Influence on Air Pollution around Beijing from an Aerosol Retrieval Model
We investigate heavy haze episodes (with dense concentrations of atmospheric aerosols) occurring around Beijing in June, when serious air pollution was detected by both satellite and ground measurements. Aerosol retrieval is achieved by radiative transfer simulation in an Earth atmosphere model. We solve the radiative transfer problem in the case of haze episodes by successive order of scatteri...
متن کاملSolution of Radiative Transfer In Anisotropic Plane-Parallel Atmosphere
We solve the radiative transfer problem analytically in the anisotropic, plane-parallel atmosphere. Chandrasekhar formalized the radiative transfer process as a simultaneous, two-variable, non-linear, integral equation and obtained the analytical solution of the second approximation for the isotropic plane-parallel atmosphere. We obtain the second approximation for the anisotropic atmosphere, b...
